In past Individuals linked to terror activities were given government jobs, while victims of terrorism were left to fend for themselves; Naya Jammu and Kashmir just not a slogan, a reality which has evolved in past few years *We are committed to making peace a permanent reality* Srinagar, July 20 (KNO): Reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to uproot terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that the administration is not striving to “buy peace,” but to establish a lasting and just peace in the region. He asserted that while no innocent will be touched, the guilty will not be spared. Speaking at an event here, LG Sinha, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) stressed on the pivotal role of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in dismantling the terror ecosystem. “The police have a crucial responsibility to destroy the support system of terrorists—be it financial, logistical, or otherwise,” he said. “It’s not just the terrorist who needs to be dealt with, but also the entire machinery that facilitates terror.” He criticized the past approach where individuals linked to terror activities were given government jobs, while victims of terrorism were neglected and left to fend for themselves. Highlighting a new chapter in the region’s healing, the LG mentioned that the administration is now actively working to rehabilitate the families who have suffered at the hands of terrorists. “Many families in J&K have lost their loved ones to terrorism. In some homes, only elderly parents remain after their sons were brutally killed. Thousands were killed at the behest of Pakistan,” LG Sinha said. He said that on July 13, 40 terror victim families in Baramulla were provided with appointment letters. “Some youth lost their fathers when they were just two years old. Today, we are ensuring that their pain is acknowledged and justice is delivered,” he said. Calling on the public to stand united with security forces, the LG said that “Naya Jammu and Kashmir” just not a slogan but a reality which has evolved in the past few years. “In this new era, pens and laptops have replaced stones in the hands of youth. Schools and colleges now remain open year-round without the disruption of hartals. Gone are the days of separatist slogans and shutdown calendars. Today, we have calendars filled with national and international events,” he added. LG Sinha also noted the rise in startups and innovation among youth, a marked shift from past unrest. “In Naya J&K, the noise of factories has replaced separatist slogans. People can now freely take part in religious and cultural events like Muharram processions and Eid Melas, and families can move around without fear and watch movies in cinema halls.” “People must join hands with security forces. Peace is not just the absence of conflict—it is the presence of justice, opportunity, and hope. And we are committed to making that peace a permanent reality,” LG Sinha said—(KNO)
